Here are some notes about how to BEST do events at Vox Pop. This is still evolving, but it's based on many years experience producing and promoting live events.

THE VOX POP
live events strategy for success and mutual prosperity
Live events
really work here when we combine live music, politics, authors, healthy food, and drinks. It gives
you and us something more to really promote.
So, for the
upcoming book/music/or politics event— do you have a special guest in mind who
could be added to the bill? If you’re a writer, do you want to add a musician?
If you’re an activist, do you want to include someone from a non-profit on the
bill, who could promote their organization (and help promo to their e-list)? It’s
all about building the event so that more people care, are involved and end up coming.
Vox Pop is
always up for helping promote your event by adding a food or drink special. If
we can sell tickets in advance, for a package deal (food, drinks, with your
book) then all the better.
Also— if your
event is big enough, maybe you should try to help get it sponsored by a local
company.
We do have a
whole list of "listings" publications which might list the
event....but it would be better if we could collaborate with the author and the
publisher on PR efforts. Here’s our small database of listings
media in NYC. Who do you know in the media? We're a small outfit here, and
every little bit of collaborative effort pays off.
An example of a
successful event (our best event ever) was with Greg Palast— on 9/30. We had a
microbrewery sponsorship, we had 3 musical acts, and we had 30 advance tickets
sold, online, in advance, here at voxpopnet.net.
The author sold
a lot of books, (which was built into the ticket sale) and everyone benefited.
We don't always have to sell advance tickets, but it's something to shoot for.
Take a look at the page we made for the Palast book event— it was very
effective!
