We're a fair-trade coffee, union-organized bookstore & coffeehouse open since 2004 in Ditmas Park/Flatbush, Brooklyn. We host great spoken word, literary and political readings, film showings, open mics, and live music of all kinds, mostly conscious acoustic, post-punk, jazz, folk, and anything new.
Our venue can accommodate an intimate crowd of about 35-90 people, and we offer a great atmosphere for all our guests. We are looking for acts to perform Wednesday–Saturday nights. Set lengths run about 40-60 minutes and we do prefer original music if possible. We often prefer to work with musicians who can help book the rest of the bill. We prefer artists with local draw.
We put you on our website, and in our regular emails. We can help make posters. We can give out flyers. PLEASE don't fail to do adequate promotion for your show. We can do a beer special with you, we're that committed to helping you promote. We ALL have a better time if you can get the word out. We charge a cover on weekends, on weekdays it's usually "pass the tip bucket", which generally works well. (Musicians get 100% of tips. Weekend cover charge is split 50/50) Our stage is small, and can fit 2 performers w/ equipment comfortably. We encourage performers to sell their merchandise during the show. We are a small outfit, and the space works best for performers with a "do it yourself" attitude.
As for the show itself, we can assist in getting the stage and equipment set up, but don't have a designated "sound guy." Vox Pop staff are of course there to assist as much as we can.
