On Karl Marx’s birthday weekend, progressive café and performance space Vox Pop hosts Bob Weick’s one man show of Howard Zinn’s electrifying play “Marx in Soho.”

Frustrated with what he sees and hears from our world, Karl Marx returns to
earth for one hour to defend the relevance of his ideas and highlight the
serious social issues facing the world today. He uses current news and
events to clarify his ideas and their relationship to contemporary
America. Not daunted by the limitations of time and the current political
climate, Marx presents a dynamic, heartfelt, humorous examination of world
history and American politics in Zinn's brilliant, engaging play starring
Bob Weick as Karl Marx. The intimacy, honesty and power of Weick's
portrayal make "Marx in Soho" a rewarding and affecting experience.

Here Are Some Things People Are Saying About Weick in "Marx In Soho":
Bob captured Marx and his ideas with the proper strength and subtlety, moving very effectively through a range of moods: humorous, angry, poignant. We admired Weick's transitions, change of pace, the nuances of feeling. In short, I am very happy with what Bob has done. John Doyle directed the play brilliantly.

Growing Up, Marx was presented as a villain, but now I understand so much more.

"Going to see Marx in Soho I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Neither, I
think were most of other students, professors and community folks that
attended the show. Marx is often seen as dull, dry and outdated - a
difficult writer to understand, but ‘Marx in Soho’ was fresh, fiery and
entertaining. Enjoyable to many, interesting to others and no doubt
offensive to somebody (as all great theatre should be). ‘Marx in Soho’
brought a long dead revolutionary to Columbus Ohio. Perhaps he should
visit more often.”

(Oh, and on Friday, from 6-8 PM the regular Vox Pop Speakout is happening, pre-show. Our theme this time happens to be Labor and Human Rights, and we're getting our neighbors at the Cinquo de Mayo revolutionary pro-Zapata Mexican restaurant involved, too! More info on the speakout.)

ACTiVIST group DISCOUNTS:
a special message to our fellow lefty activists:
Marx in Soho at Vox Pop is a great chance to start to use Vox Pop as a place for different lefty activist groups to MEET each other. Kind of a lefty "Meet-up.com" or a "Linked In" towards new forms of collaboration, and common-cause, in the New York Left.
We want to reach out to your group. We have some flexibility on pricing, for the show, and for the food and drink we offer. We invite progressive groups would like to come out and buy seats in groups of five, get dinner, and beer, the show, and a post-show discussion (plus networking with other radical/progressive groups), as part of the deal. The Star of the show, Bob Weick, is also willing to discuss the play and its ideas, post-show.
Activist Group Deal would be: 5 dinner and show tickets for a discount. Usually, this is $23 per, for dinner, a drink, and the play. For activist groups who can bring at least 5 people, the per ticket price will be $20. A pretty good deal, don't you think? Think of this as a networking opportunity for your group, and our common cause. Vox Pop is a fair-trade coffee cafe, serving healthy food, vegan veggie burgers, savory turkey burgers, and free-range bison burgers.
